to read, learn, and craft this winter at its three locations, offering a full
slate of programming & activities in the coming months.

In addition, registration for the all-ages Winter Reading Challenge
continues through the month at defiancelibrary.beanstack.org, and
the Teen Winter Craze reading challenge for grades 6-12 kicks off on
Beanstack Feb. 1 and continues through the month. Both offer patrons
a chance to win prizes for time spent reading books or audiobooks.

Decoding the Mysteries of Cats: Stephen Quandt explains cat
behavior from the perspective of the evolutionary and adaptive forces
that drive it. Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. Register at defiancelibrary.org/cats to

Humane Society Supply Drive (now through Jan. 22): Defiance Public
Library is hosting a supply drive to benefit Fort Defiance Humane
Society through Jan. 22. Donated items can be dropped off at the

Financial Classes: Postema Insurance & Investments will visit Defiance Public Library on
Jan. 18 to present ‘Retirement You Can’t Outlive’ at 10:30 a.m. and Estate Planning at 5
p.m.
Defiance History Buffs: The History Buffs will meet on Jan. 22 beginning at 6 p.m. at
Defiance Public Library to hear a special presentation by James Orozco, current steward
of Preston Island.
Paw Patrol Party: Items gathered during the Humane Society Supply Drive will be handed
over to Fort Defiance Humane Society at a special Paw Patrol-themed party on Jan. 23
from 10:30 a.m.-noon at Defiance Public Library.
Storytime: Join Defiance Public Library for Storytime for ages 2-6 every Monday at 6 p.m.
and Tuesday at 11 a.m. from Jan. 29-March 26. Storytime will take place upstairs in the
Nellie Gary Reading Room, with exceptions on Feb. 26 & March 26, when the group will
meet in the Children’s Room. Read, Rhyme, & Romp for babies and toddlers will take
place immediately before, at 5:30 p.m. on Mondays and 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays.
Human Trafficking Warning Signs: Tara Rex from the Center for Child & Family Advocacy
will visit Defiance Public Library on January 25 at 6 p.m. to teach about the warning signs
of human trafficking, and how to spot red flags to help protect yourself and your loved
ones. Free & open to all adults 18+.
Alzheimer’s Series: The Alzheimer’s Association of Northwest Ohio will continue its free
educational series on Feb. 13 at 3 p.m. at Defiance Public Library with ‘What is Hospice

Sherwood
Gaming League: Grades 6-12 are invited to Sherwood Branch Library, 117 N. Harrison St., on
the second Tuesday of each month from 4-6 p.m. for Gaming League, a group for those
who love games: board games, video games, card games, & more.
Couples Paint Night: Create a Valentine’s Day masterpiece on Feb. 2 from 6-8 p.m. at
Sherwood Branch. Must be 21+. Snacks will be provided and guests can bring

Friends of SBL Book Sale: Find your next great read during the Friends of Sherwood
Branch Library’s Book Sale, taking place every Saturday in February (Feb. 3, 10, 17, 24) from
10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the library. Books are available for a freewill donation, and proceeds
support the library.

Make a Valentine’s Day Mailbox: School-aged kids are invited to Johnson Memorial
Library on Feb. 5 at 5 p.m. to make a special Valentine’s Day mailbox for your class
Valentines.
