Defiance County Safe Communities Coalition is hosting a FREE Safety Town for area youth ages 4- 6 years old to prepare them for going to school. Registration for Safety Town is open now through June 3rd and can be done online at defiancecohealth.org or by calling 419-784-3818. The purpose of Safety Town is to teach basic safety education focusing on pedestrian, bicycle, bus, and recreational safety. Participants will also get to meet first responders and tour emergency vehicles. Children age 4-6 years old and who will be entering Kindergarten or First Grade in the fall are strongly encouraged to attend.
Safety Town Information:
- Safety Town will be held at Defiance Area YMCA on June 12th.
- Check in and drop off of students will be from 8:00 – 8:30 AM.
- The event will begin at 8:30 AM and end at 12:15 PM.
- Pick up for students will be from 12:15 – 12:30 pM
The Safety Town program is sponsored by General Motors Defiance, Defiance Area YMCA, Defiance County Health Department, and Defiance County Safe Communities Coalition. Partner organizations for the event include: Defiance Public Library, Defiance Police Department, Defiance Fire & Rescue, Defiance County Sheriff’s Office, Hicksville Police Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Defiance County Drug Free Coalition, Defiance City Schools, Maumee Valley Planning Organization, and Ohio Operation Lifesaver. Children planning to attend Safety Town must be potty trained.
