Library System, Board of DD team up to offer inclusive programs

DEFIANCE – March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness
Month, and the Defiance County Board of Developmental
Disabilities is teaming up with Defiance Public Library System to
offer inclusive programming during the month and beyond.
The Board of DD and Sherwood Branch Library are inviting patrons
of all ages to Inclusive Storytime on March 21 and April 18 at 4:30
p.m. at the library, 117 N. Harrison St., Sherwood. They are also
partnering to offer an Inclusive Book Club that will meet on the last
Tuesday of the month (March 26, April 30, and May 28) from 1-2
p.m. at the library. Book selections will be geared to ages 13+.
Then, the Board of DD will visit Defiance Public Library, 320 Fort St.,
on April 9 at 10:30 a.m. to share one of their favorite books, “Just
Ask! Be Different. Be Brave. Be You” by Sonia Sotomayor. The story
explores the fact that feeling different, especially as a kid, can be
tough. However, just as many types of plants and flowers make our
world more vibrant and beautiful, different types of people make
our world more wonderful too. The story is geared to ages 0-6. After
reading the book, a representative from the Board of DD will offer
information about the board’s services and Early Intervention
Program.
No registration is needed for any of these programs. For more
information, contact the library at 419-782-1456.
